Meet MacroNutrition’s Head Coach

Jennifer Commisso – Head Coach

Holistic Nutritionist & Certified Personal Trainer

Jenn’s journey from struggling with her own weight, to becoming a trainer and competitive bodybuilder, to navigating the physical and mental consequences of pursuing the “ideal” physique has shaped everything about the coach she is today. Now back to coaching full-time as MacroNutrition’s Head Coach, she’s bringing those lessons with her. Read on to learn more about Jennifer’s story and coaching philosophies.

Hi, I’m Jenn, and I think it’s time I properly introduced myself, especially because I am officially stepping into my role as Head Coach at MacroNutrition full-time!

But long before I was a coach, nutritionist or trainer, I was someone who simply wanted to lose weight (but had no idea how to do it).

Growing up, I was always a little on the heavier side and desperately wanted to “tone up” and feel confident in my body. Like so many women, I tried trending diets, supplements and workout programs, hoping one of them would finally be “the thing” that worked.

It wasn’t until I hired a personal trainer in my early 20s that things began to change. I learned how to train, started lifting weights, eating differently, tracking my macros and, most importantly, being consistent. I lost about 20 pounds, became stronger and more confident, and completely fell in love with fitness.

That experience ultimately changed the direction of my life. I thought: “I want to help others feel this way too.”

So, I became a certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, spending years coaching in person before eventually transitioning into the online coaching space. Along the way, I decided to take my own fitness goals even further. In 2018, I competed in two bikini competitions, placing third in one of them.

From the outside, it looked like the ultimate success story. But getting leaner didn’t automatically make me healthier or happier with my body. My pursuit of the “ideal” physique eventually came with consequences, including restrictive and disordered eating patterns, body image struggles, hormonal issues and, later, significant digestive challenges.

It forced me to confront something that would ultimately shape the coach I am today: looking fit and being healthy aren’t always the same thing, and achieving a goal doesn’t mean much if the way you got there isn’t something your body or your life can sustain.

So, what did this all mean for me?

I had to learn how to eat more, train differently, listen to my body, rebuild my trust with food, and let go of some of the extremes I once associated with being “fit.”

My journey didn’t suddenly become perfect after learning those lessons. I’ve had seasons of wanting to lose body fat and seasons where my body needed more food. Seasons where I could push hard and seasons where I needed to pull back. I’ve navigated tanked and unpredictable hormones, sensitive digestion, poor body image, high stress and simply getting older, all while figuring out what “being healthy” actually looks like for me, in real life.

Those experiences have shaped almost everything about the way I coach today.

I still believe in having goals. I still believe in fat loss when it’s appropriate. I believe in tracking macros, progressive strength training, structure and working hard. But I don’t believe that looking fit and being healthy requires extremes, and I definitely don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

Sometimes the answer is eating less. Sometimes it’s eating more. Sometimes it’s pushing harder in the gym. And sometimes the healthiest decision is learning when not to push.

My goal as a coach is to help you understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, so that you can navigate life without needing the perfect meal plan, perfect macros or perfect circumstances.

Because behind every set of macros is a real person with a real life, and I believe good coaching needs to account for the whole person.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to step into this role at MacroNutrition. Our philosophy is rooted in situational coaching: coaching the person, not just the numbers.

In many ways, this role feels full circle. My own journey began because I needed someone to give me the education, tools and support to change my health. Now, as Head Coach at MacroNutrition, I get to bring those lessons together and help our clients build results they can not only achieve, but actually sustain.

Growing with MacroNutrition feels a little like coming home, and I’m very excited for what’s ahead.
